Indiana CDL Skills Basic Maneuvering Vehicle Control CDL Skills Test

The Indiana Basic Vehicle Control (also referred to as the Basic Maneuvering) CDL Skills is the second of three required Indiana CDL skills tests.

There are THREE parts to the Indiana CDL Skills Test

You must obtain a Indiana CLP (commercial learners permit) prior to taking your Indiana CDL skills test.

  • Straight line backing
  • Offset right or left backing
  • Alley dock backing

The backing control skills information for each representative "type" vehicle is found in Section 12 of the Free Indiana CDL Handbook (Commercial Driver's License Manual).

The three-part Indiana CDL skills tests must be scheduled (often more than a week ahead). They are given either by a Indiana state tester or by a Indiana state approved third party tester. Depending on where you live, you will either have to provide a proper vehicle or one will be provided for you. This may vary from location to location.
