Nevada CDL - COMMERCIAL INSTRUCTION PERMIT REQUIREMENTS
All commercial license applicants must meet the following requirements and take the appropriate knowledge tests to
receive a permit:
- Minimum Age - You must be at least 21 years of age to operate a commercial motor vehicle in
interstate commerce and 25 years of age to drive an over-length combination vehicle (70 feet). Applicants
between 18 to 20 years of age may be granted a CDL for intrastate commerce only and cannot transport passengers
for hire or hazardous materials requiring placards.
- Medical Examination Card (if required) - You must certify
the type of driving you do, and if you are "non-excepted", you must
present a Medical Examination Card completed by a Certified Medical Examiner.
See the license application or www.dmvnv.com/certify for details.
- Driving Record - When you apply for your CDL you will be
asked to certify that you don't have a driver's license from more than one state,
provide a list of states that you have held a driver's license for the previous
10 years and certify that your driver's license is not currently suspended,
revoked or cancelled in any state nor subject to any of these actions. The DMV
will run a national check.
- Proof of Identity - A current Nevada driver license, instruction permit or identification card is
sufficient for proof of identity. This must be surrendered. If you are not currently licensed in Nevada, you must
present all of the following:
- Your Current, State-Issued License or ID Card
This will be hole-punched and returned to you with an interim licensing document. The new license will be mailed.
- Proof of Your Social Security Number - A Social Security card, W-2, 1099, payroll stub with the
number listed or other official documents.
- Additional Proof of Identity - You must present your certified
birth certificate or abstract or a U.S. passport if you were born in the U.S.
If you were born outside the U.S., you will need a valid foreign passport
stamped "Processed for I-551", a Resident card or a Certificate
of Naturalization. Documents must be originals. You must also present evidence
of any legal name change. This may include a marriage certificate, divorce
decree, adoption records or court order. See our web site at www.dmvnv.com
for a complete list.

Nevada CDL written exams to get your Nevada CDL permit. The skills test modules are invaluable to give you a head start before doing your
