There are THREE parts to the New Jersey CDL Skills Test
You must obtain a
New Jersey CLP (commercial learners permit) prior to taking your New Jersey CDL skills test.
New Jersey Basic Control Skills Tests
- Straight line backing
- Offset right or left backing
- Alley dock backing
The backing control skills information for each representative "type"
vehicle is found in Section 12 of the
Free
New Jersey CDL Handbook (Commercial Driver's License Manual).
The three-part New Jersey CDL skills tests must be scheduled (often more than a week ahead).
They are given either by a New Jersey state tester or by a New Jersey state approved third party
tester. Depending on where you live, you will either have to provide a proper
vehicle or one will be provided for you. This may vary from location to location.
