There are THREE types (classifications) of Illinois CDL (Commercial Drivers License)
If you possess a Class B CDL, you may also drive Class C vehicles if you have the appropriate endorsements (but not Class A).

Illinois Class B CDL (Commercial Drivers License) Requirements
Any single vehicle which has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross vehicle
weight of 11,794 or more kilograms (26,001 pounds or more), or any such vehicle
towing a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross vehicle weight
that does not exceed 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds).
How to get a Illinois Class B CDL (Commercial Drivers License)
- Provide documentation and pay fees
- Provide Medical Certificate
- Pass applicable written test(s) to obtain a Illinois CDL B permit (General
Knowledge and Air Brakes*) *Air Brakes Test not needed if you will NEVER
drive a vehicle with air brakes.
- Pass additional "endorsement" written tests (if necessary) based upon the type of "loads" you will carry.
- Pass skills tests in a "representative" type vehicle

Illinois Class B Exam Requirements
To operate straight trucks and buses 26,001 lbs or more, then a Illinois Class B
license is needed. The following tests are required:
- General Knowledge test
- Air Brakes (if applicable)
- Pre-Trip
- Basic Skills
- CDL Road Test
- Applicable exams for desired endorsements
You can normally take the required Illinois CDL written tests and obtain your
your Illinois CDL permit without having to make an appointment. You will need
